# How do I set which service descriptions appear in my quote?

Learn how to use if-statements to automatically show the right service descriptions in your quotes. Step-by-step explanation with examples.

## 🎯 The problem

You want your quotes to automatically show the right service descriptions – only the services the surveyor has ticked. Right now, either all services always appear, or you have to manually add/remove texts per quote.

- Administrator rights in Bas Software
- Access to the template editor
- Basic knowledge of your quote template

## ✅ How to solve it

## Step 1: Open your quote template

1. Click **Settings** (the cog icon)
2. Go to **Working method**
3. Click **Document Template**
4. Select **Quote**

You'll now see the editor with your quote template.

## Step 2: Find your service descriptions

Scroll to the section where your service descriptions are. For example:

Packing: Our experienced packers ensure all your belongings are packed safely using professional packing materials.
```

## Step 3: Add if-statements

For each service description, place this line:

```
{% if project.usesService('servicename') %}
```

After the service description, close with:

```
{% endif %}
```

### Example: Packing

**Before** (always appears):

```
Packing: Our experienced packers ensure all your belongings are packed safely.
```

**After** (only appears if ticked):

```
{% if project.usesService('packing') %}Packing: Our experienced packers ensure all your belongings are packed safely.{% endif %}
```

## Step 4: Use the correct service names

Here are the most commonly used service names:

| Service | Service name |
| --- | --- |
| Deliver boxes | `provide_boxes` |
| Packing | `packing` |
| Unpacking | `unpack` |
| Reassembly | `assemble` |
| Disassembly | `disassemble` |
| Moving with a furniture hoist | `moving-lift` |

💡 **Tip:** Copy the service name exactly – watch out for hyphens, as in `moving-lift`.

## Step 5: Save and test

1. Click **Save** in the template editor
2. Create a test quote with different services ticked
3. Check whether the right descriptions appear

## 💡 Background: How does this work?

Bas Software uses if-statements (if-then rules):

- **If** the surveyor ticks "Packing"
- **Then** the quote shows the packing description

This happens automatically when the quote is generated.

## ❓ Frequently asked questions

## Can I keep texts without an if-statement in my template?

Yes! Texts without `{% if %}` always appear. Your logo, company name and general texts don't need an if-statement.

## What if I get an error message?

Check these three things:

1. Is there a space after `{%` and before `%}`?
2. Does every `{% if %}` have a corresponding `{% endif %}`?
3. Has the service name been copied exactly?

## Can I also use this for invoices?

Yes! If-statements work in all Bas Software templates.
