# Creating a warehouse

Create a warehouse in Bas with an address and square metres. Learn why the warehouse address matters for planning.

**(Only if you offer storage)**

The warehouse is the physical location where your storage is kept: a building, a hall, a storage depot. In this article, you'll learn how to create a warehouse in Bas and what information you'll need.

## Step 1 - Work out your warehouses on paper

Before you create anything in the system, grab a sheet of paper (or a spreadsheet) and answer these questions:

1. **How many warehouses do you have?** Note down the name and address of each warehouse.
2. **Do you own it or do you rent the warehouse?** This is relevant for your records.

Write this out. A clean structure on paper prevents a mess in the system.

## Step 2 - Navigate to warehouse management

Go to **WMS** > **Warehouses**. Here you'll see an overview of all warehouses. In a new environment, this overview is empty.

Click **New warehouse** to add your first warehouse.

## Step 3 - Enter warehouse details

Enter the following details:

| Field | What to enter | Example |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Name** | A recognisable name for the warehouse | Warehouse Industrieweg |
| **Address** | Full address of the warehouse | Industrieweg 12, 5612 AB Eindhoven |
| **Owned** | Is it your own warehouse or do you rent it? | Yes / No |

### Why does the address matter?

The address you enter for a warehouse is automatically used as the **loading and unloading address** for storage case files. If you schedule a job where items go into storage, the system automatically uses the warehouse address as the destination.

`Note:` Do NOT manually enter the warehouse address as the loading/unloading address for regular removals involving storage. This happens automatically as soon as you link storage to a case file. If you enter it manually, you'll end up with duplicate address entries.

## Step 4 - Save and repeat

Click **New warehouse** to save. The warehouse is now created and ready for use.

Repeat this for every physical storage location you have. Do you have two branches? Create two warehouses.

## Example: typical warehouse setup

Below is an example of what warehouses can look like in Bas:

### Company with 1 warehouse:

## Step 5 - Check the warehouse overview

After creating it, go back to **WMS** > **Warehouses**. You'll now see all the warehouses you've created.

Check that: - The names are correct - The addresses are correct - The number of warehouses is correct

Is something wrong? Click the warehouse and use the **pencil icon** to edit it.

## Tips

- **Always fill in the address.** The warehouse address is automatically used as the loading/unloading address for storage case files. This saves you manual work.
- **Use recognisable names.** "Warehouse Industrieweg" is clearer than "Warehouse 1". With multiple warehouses, this is extra important.
- **Check the addresses.** An incorrect warehouse address means jobs get scheduled to the wrong location.

## Please note

- **Do NOT enter the warehouse address manually as the loading/unloading address** for removals involving storage. This happens automatically when you link storage to a case file. Entering it manually results in duplicate addresses.
- **An incorrect address** means your employees are sent to the wrong location. Check the addresses carefully.
- **Creating a warehouse per customer** is wrong. Create warehouses per physical location, not per customer. You link customers to units later.
